Welcome to Abbeymead Rovers FC
Abbeymead Rovers FC are based in Gloucester and have a vast array of teams across a range of age groups from 4 to 80+ years. We are affiliated to the Gloucestershire Football Association and are proud to be an England Football 3 Star Accredited Club and, from 2025, a Thriving Community Club. We strive to provide a fun, safe and inclusive environment for all our grassroots teams. Our Club is run entirely by volunteers, including Executive and Management Committee Members, Coaching Teams and helpers. We have come a long way since our humble beginnings back in 1997, evolving from 3 teams to over 50 teams now operating across the Club!
A family club supporting the community
Abbeymead Rovers FC provides football for over 800 people, with our base in the Abbeymead and Abbeydale area of Gloucester. We are a nonprofit organisation, and all of our coaches, helpers and committee members are volunteers who give up their time and effort for the benefit of the community. With over 50 teams, we foster a close relationship between all of our teams and players.
Our History
1997 is where it all began! A group of local parents started training sessions for U7s–U9s on the local fields by Lobley's Drive, and 'Abbeymead Rovers' was born with 80 members. From our first Men's and girls' teams to Walking Football and our 25th birthday, find out how we became one of the biggest grassroots clubs in the country.
Honours & Awards
We have been consistently recognised and are very proud of our reputation. That includes three-time Gloucestershire FA Club of the Year, an FA Mars 'Just Play' Walking Football Centre of the Year, and the FA Charter Standard (or equivalent), which we have held since 2004.

Where We Play
Our main base is Abbeydale Sports & Community Centre, where our 3G training pitch and changing rooms were built through our alliance with Abbeydale Community Association. The majority of our teams train here during the week, and our youngest age groups train on Saturday mornings.
A safe and fun environment
We strive to provide football for all in a safe and fun environment, and we have the policies and procedures in place to ensure this. Our coaches hold the FA Introduction to Football Coaching as a minimum and have completed First Aid and Safeguarding qualifications, which they renew regularly.
